asheutteredthiswish,thegolosheswhichhehadputontookeffect,andthewatchmanatoncebecamethelieutenant.therehestoodinhisroom,holdingalittlepieceofpinkpaperbetweenhisfingers,onwhichwasapoem,-apoemwrittenbythelieutenanthimself.whohasnothad,foronceinhislife,amomentofpoeticinspiration?andatsuchamoment,ifthethoughtsarewrittendown,theyflowinpoetry.thefollowingverseswerewrittenonthepinkpaper:-
